Stonewall Bar Award
Annual dinner at the Fox Theater on October 27, 2016, the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia honored Merritt McAlister of King & Spalding, solo family lawyer Lori Surmay, and James Outman of Hester Outman with their Outstanding Service to the Stonewall Community Award for their amicus briefing in a U.S. Supreme Court case that struck down an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that refused to recognize a Georgia adoption by a same-sex couple.
